If you are wondering what a failed spray on epoxy coating looks like…here it is. We come across this often. This particular manhole was part of a group of approximately 200 other manholes in Texas that received a Triplex Liner this summer. We literally pulled the failed spray on coating out in thin, fragile, brittle fragments.
Spray on coatings are, in many instances, a very temporary band-aid type of fix. When we encounter this situation, we must remove the failed coating first, and sometimes, pieces have already detached, (as you can see), and fallen down into the sewage channel disrupting the flow.
We then properly clean, prep and install a permanent Triplex Liner. It’s a shame this manhole has now been rehabbed twice when it only needed to have been rehabbed once with a Triplex Liner.
